SOLAR WATER PUMPING

SOLAR WATER PUMPING

Water is a scarce resource, even in the southern islands of Bangladesh. The salinity of the river water poses problems for the seasonal supply of drinking and irrigation water. Typically deep tube wells are used to collect drinking water from below 700-900 feet underground. Water is pumped from these tube wells on a daily basis to meet the household’s demand for potable water. Irrigation is also limited to a single harvest in a year since it is dependent on the monsoon rainfall. REDI has introduced solar water pumping to demonstrate the use of solar energy in water pumping in remote locations.
